Lively II Returns Home After Mother's Passing
Mavs Center Dereck Lively II has returned home after the passing of his mother, Kathy Drysdale, who lost her battle with an undisclosed illness on Friday. Lively II played in Game 1 of the first-round before returning to be with his family.
The Mavericks organization released a statement expressing their condolences to Lively II and his family. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dereck's mother, Kathy," the statement read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Dereck and his family during this difficult time."
Lively II, who was drafted by the Mavericks with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has been a key contributor for the team this season, averaging 10.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
The Mavericks are scheduled to face the Phoenix Suns in Game 2 of their first-round series on Monday night. It is unclear if Lively II will be available to play in the game.
